William Zimmerman Obituary

William Zimmerman Resident of Walnut Creek, CA June 27, 1923-March 13, 2011 Bill passed away quietly on Sunday, March 13th in Walnut Creek, CA after a long illness. Bill was born in San Bernadino, CA, graduated from St. Marys High School and accomplished 3 years at St. Marys College until WWII called him to duty as a Fighter Pilot. He was stationed on an Island in the Philippines where he flew over 100 successful combat Missions in a P-38 plane. Bill married his longtime love Francine at the beginning of the war and came home to her in 1945. They were married 66 years. They lived in the Oakland Hills and raised 3 children, Leslie (deceased), Mark; who now resides in Dallas and Joann from Oakland. Bill was involved in many organizations; St. Vincent Society, Rotary Club, the Serra Club and a long time member of Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton where he loved to play golf and tennis. He worked as a Senior Estimator in the Construction business for 45 years. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Francine, his two children, Mark and Joann; his brother Robert Zimmerman, his sisters Gayle Zimmerman, Mary Pfarr, and Suzanne Rader. He also has 3 Grand - children, Darren, Michael and Sherry and numerous nieces and nephews. His kind and quiet spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service, Friday, March 18th, 11:00 am at St. Anne's Catholic Church on Rossmoor Parkway in Walnut Creek. (right outside the Rossmoor gates) A luncheon will be served immediately following at the same location.
