Westley "Wes" Gregory Owens Apr. 17, 1917 - Oct. 6, 2010 Resident of Rossmoor Westley G. Owens passed away in his home the night of October 6, 2010. He was always a positive, loving engaging man. His family and friends will miss him. Wes was born in the San Pablo Creek area and early on lived on the family farm of his parents Olaf and Lillian Owens. He attended St Mary's College before joining the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He served his country in the Far East theatre of war and was stationed at Guadalcanal among other islands. After the war, in October 1945, Wes married Helen McCarthy, of Oakland California. They were married for 64 years and made their home in Pinole before Helen passed away last summer. Wes pursued a career as an optician after the war and joined Franklin Optical of Oakland, CA where he remained until his retirement. He loved "the horses" and enjoyed the thrill and competition of the racetrack. He shared a love of travel with his wife Helen. Wes and Helen did not have children of their own, but had more children than most couples. Their over 16 nieces and nephews and many more grand nieces and nephews all were counted as theirs. All who knew him will miss his generous, loving soft touch. Wes will be buried by the family in a private ceremony along side his loving wife Helen in Golden Gate Cemetery. Instead of flowers, please send donations in his name to St Perpetua Catholic Church, 3454 Hamlin Rd. Lafayette, Ca. 94549.
