Tassia Joukoff Obituary

Tassia Joukoff Longtime Walnut Creek Resident Tassia sadly passed away on Thursday, October 14th at the age of 89. Tassia was born on October 16, 1920 in Vladivostok, Russia to Anna Buzunova and Jacob Chetvernia. Tassia's family founded and operated Woodworks Incorporated, a series of lumber mills in Manila, Taiwan, and Shanghai, which specialized in high-quality hardwood. The youngest of 10 children, Tassia and her family left Russia for Harbin, China at the end of the Russian Civil War. Eventually moving to Shanghai, China, Tassia met and married her late husband, Victor Harold Joukoff, on May 20, 1946. Tassia and Victor lived in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and spent a great deal of time in the Philippines before proudly immigrating to the United States in 1950. After seven years of living in the Sunset District of San Francisco, Tassia and her family moved to Walnut Creek where they have been residents since 1957. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Tassia had many interests and passions. A gourmet cook and entertainer extraordinaire, Tassia loved to throw extravagant parties, indulging her guests with delicacies of black caviar, smoked salmon, and traditional Russian piroshky. A talented painter of Ukrainian eggs, phenomenal gardener, and a multiple winner of the Walnut Creek Home Decorating Contest during the holidays, Tassia was a master of many crafts. If she wasn't busy with all of her activities, Tassia was traveling the world, covering much of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and her favorite place to visit, Tahiti. Tassia is survived by her son, Philip Victor Joukoff and his partner, Meribeth Farmer; her grandson, Mark Philip Joukoff; her granddaughter, Stephanie Jean Joukoff and Stephanie's husband James David Qualk. Tassia will also be remembered by Meribeth's children Megan, Robert, and Allison Farmer. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Tassia's life at 11am on Wednesday, October 20th in the Chapel at the Serbian Cemetery, 1801 Hillside Boulevard, Colma, California
