Stanley Pukusa Obituary

Stanley Michael Pokusa May 6, 1920 - Oct. 19, 2010 Antioch Resident Growing up in Pennsylvania, Stanley was one of ten children born to Katie and John Pokusa. He entered the Armyand served under Gen. MacArthur in the pre-World War 2Philippines and the Pacific Theater. During the War, Stanley was sent to Pittsburg, Ca. to open and staff the new Camp Stoneman. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Doreen Jones. After his Army service the couple settled in Antioch and raised their two children. Stanley became a journeyman butcher and store owner. In 1954, with his wife Doreen, he co-founded Doreen's School of the Dance. Stanley was a founding member of St. George's Episcopal Church and remained active with his support of the Antioch Food Pantry. He was a 60 year member of the Antioch Masonic Lodge. Stanley is survived by his loving family; daughter Mimi Costa-White, son Tom Pokusa, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Doreen in 2004. A Masonic service will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, 7 p.m., at Higgins Chapel. Funeral services will be on Sat., Oct. 23, 1p.m., at St. George's Episcopal Church. The family prefers donations to the Pokusa Memorial Scholarship at Antioch High School, 700 W. 18th St., or St. George's Episcopal Church.
