Sharon Crandall Obituary

Sharon Crandall Resident of Piedmont Family and friends mourn the loss of Sharon Carlson Crandall, born April 26, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Jack and Elise Carlson. Sharon passed away peacefully at her home in Piedmont, CA on September 24, 2010. A memorial celebration of her life is scheduled on October 12, 2010 at 3:00pm at the Piedmont Community Church. A graduate of San Marino High School in 1961, Sharon continued her studies at Pine Manor College. She eventually moved on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley where she joined the Delta Gamma sorority and graduated in 1965 as a Political Science major. She married L. Dale Crandall on September 10, 1966 and settled into motherhood, homemaking, and community service. A committed volunteer in the community throughout her life, Sharon supported and served as an active member for a wide variety of organizations and causes including Cancer League, Junior League, the Oakland Library PASS program, Meals on Wheels, Piedmont Schools, Campfire Girls, and Easter Seals, among others. She also successfully owned and operated Peter Pan Nursery School in Fremont, CA for 17 years. Sharon's zest for life and boundless energy was poured into everything that she touched. She was an avid gamester, excelling at bridge, dominos and other activities that brought her together with friends and family. She also enjoyed tennis and reading and belonged to book clubs and bridge and investment groups to celebrate and share her interests with the people she knew and loved. As a travel enthusiast she covered the globe throughout her lifetime, exploring a wide variety of cities and cultures. Sharon dedicated her life to friends and family, community service, and adventure. She is survived by her husband, L. Dale Crandall, children Elizabeth Libby and Robert Crandall, son-in-law David Libby, daughter-in-law Shadia Crandall, grandchildren Andrea and Rebecca Libby and Ella and Owen Crandall, and mother Elise Carlson. She is also survived by sisters Susan Moffett and Martha Ryan and brother Jay Carlson, nine nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of dear friends. In her passing she joins her sister Christy Anderson and her father Jack Carlson to rest in peace and walk with the angels.
