Robert Edward Stithem Dec. 11, 1922 ~ Oct. 12, 2010 Resident of Moraga Bob's brave strong heart gave up after a very long and wonderful life. He was born in Spokane, Washington and grew up in Deming, WA where he graduated from Deming High School. He was in school in Washington, DC when he enlisted and spent his service years in the Navy intelligence department in Washington. Bob graduated from the University of Washington where he met his future wife Margaret McCracken. After graduating Bob and Margaret moved to the Bay Area - with a short stint in Chicago - and have remained in the Lafayette and Moraga area for over 60 years. Bob worked as the controller for PIE and subsequently for Walter Shorenstein in San Francisco for over 15 years as the CFO. Bob retired at 60 and enjoyed his life with his wife Margaret traveling the world, playing bridge and golf, attending the San Francisco Opera and Symphony, theater, art, museums and his beloved 49ers. Bob was a valued and active member of the SIRS Lamorinda Branch 171. His dear family and friends have been such a large part of his long life. Bob is survived by his loving wife Margaret Stithem; devoted sons Larry of Park City, UT and John and wife Kelley of Santa Rosa; and grandsons Joshua of Santa Rosa, and David of Brooklyn, NY. There will be a private graveside service at the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery, Reno, NV. A public memorial will be held Monday, November 15th at 2pm, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow the memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's name, if desired, may be made to the San Francisco Symphony, Davies Hall, San Francisco, CA 94102 or the San Francisco Opera, 301 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102, (415) 861-4008.
