Richard Lee Cummings, 81, died at home on February 6, 2011, and has joined his three deceased sons in eternal life.
Born in Fort Morgan, Colorado, he moved to California in the early 1940's. Dick married Dorothy Govednik in 1958 and resided with his family in Orinda since 1968.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Gary (1960-1967), Brian (1961-1996), and Kevin (1965-1971). Dick leaves behind Dorothy, his wife of 52 years; two grandsons, Alan and Kyle Cummings; two sisters, Lenore Gibson (William) and Janet Walters (Bob); brother-in-law Joseph F. Govednik (Margaret); daughter-in-law Ginny Cummings Mitchell (Bob); and many nieces and nephews.
He was the former CEO of Burr-Cummings Associates, Inc. and of Cummings-McMullen, Inc. His late son Brian served as President of the family company until his death in 1996, after which the company was sold and Dick retired.
Dick cherished his family, friends, and life. He was always happy with family and friends sharing a dinner, Raiders football game, car races, or traveling. Once you met Dick, you had a friend for life.

Visitation at 6:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, at Church of Santa Maria, 20 Santa Maria Way, Orinda, CA 94563.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Santa Maria, Orinda, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 11. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette, CA.
