Ramona Lou Merchant

Ramona Lou Merchant May 31, 1928 ~ Dec. 12, 2010 Resident of Concord Aftera brief illness, Mona passed away on home on Sunday, December 12th at 82 years of age. She was a native of Tacoma, WA and 54-year resident of Concord. She had surrounded her family in life with her unwaivering love, so in her passsing was she surrounded by the love of her family. Mona is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years Leroy; her loving children, son Gary and daughters Emily Rossetti (Tony), Rhonda Merchant and Lois Farry (Mike). She was preceded in death by her beloved son Edward in 1998. Mona was also blessed with 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous brothers; sisters; in-laws; nieces; nephews, cousins; and countless friends. She survived her beloved parents Otto and Myrtle Gehri and sister Gloria Sandberg. Mona's greatest love was her devotion to her husband and family. She also enjoyed working with children which she expressed through teaching 6th grate at Martinez Junior High for 19 years, retiring in 1988. She was a remarkable source of inspiration, strength and positive influence not only among her family and friends, but in the lives of many young people. A Memorial Service in celebration of Mona's life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 18th at Connolly & Taylor, 4000 Alhambra Avenue in Martinez. A reception will follow at the Event Center (next to La Tapatia at the corner of Alhambra and Main Street). In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in Mona's memory to her favorite charity: Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
