Norman E. Wanek Feb. 28, 1923~March 15, 2011 Resident of Danville Norm passed away in his sleep at his home of 51 years. He was born in Bridgewater, S.D. His family moved to California in 1935. He attended high school in Escondido and graduated from U.C. Berkeley, The Garvin School of International Management and Rutgers University. During WWII, he served in the South Pacific as Navigator on an LST and later retired as a Lt. Commander from the Naval Reserve. In 1981, he retired from Schering-Plough Corp. as Director of Sales - Western Region. Norm is survived by devoted daughter, Maria Sargent of Davis and beloved grandsons, Kent and Kevin Sargent of Davis; brother Bernie Wanek of Burbank, and sister Mary Hall (Don) of Fallbrook. He was preceded in death by his brother Joe, sister Marguerite, cherished daughter Cristina and loving wife of 63 years, Consuelo. In retirement, Norm and Connie led active lives and enjoyed traveling. Norm was a founding member of the Diablo Bonsai Club and an active member of SIR 128, San Ramon. He was an avid bridge player and participated in book and computer groups. He enjoyed skiing and scuba diving until age 86 with his daughter and grandsons. Norm proudly wore his "CAL" cap throughout the town on his daily walks. These walks as well as riding his 3 wheel bicycle brought Norm much enjoyment up until his final day. A Mass of Celebration will be held at 12 noon on Saturday March 19th at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 2601 San Ramon Valley Blvd., San Ramon, CA. Interment will be at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
