Mildred W. Joyce Nov. 27, 1921 ~ Nov. 30, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek Mildred "Millie" Joyce peacefully passed away in her sleep in the early morning of November 30, 2010. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday. Millie was born in Stamford, Connecticut where she grew up and completed her early school years through high school. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor's degree from Russell Sage College, Troy New York in the field of Physical Education. She taught Phys Ed in junior high school and coached the girls' basketball team. Millie always loved the water and boating, and she made sure all of her children and nieces and nephews knew how to swim. Her passion in life was education and learning, always encouraging others to reach to their highest level. Millie was preceded in death by Cal Joyce, her husband of over 50 years. Millie is survived by her three children Pete (Cathy), Linda, and Charlie (Justine Faisst); five grandchildren, and three great-grand-children, along with other extended family members. There will be an informal memorial service held on Saturday, December 4, 10am, at Byron Park, 1700 Tice Valley Blvd, Walnut Creek. In lieu of flowers Millie would prefer donations be made to the Byron Parkers Education Fund at 1700 Tice Valley Blvd., Walnut Creek, CA 94595 or the "For Excellence in Education Fund", Russell Sage College, 65 1st St, Troy, NY 12180.
