Mary Kathryn (Katy) Metcalf Hicks, 65, departed this life Friday December 14, 2012 at her home in Bay Point. She was born July 31, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She was the daughter of Walter L and Evelyn (Brooks) Metcalf. 
Katy moved with her family to the Pittsburg area in September 1954. She attended area schools, graduating in 1966 from Pacifica High School in West Pittsburg.
Katy was united in marriage on August 22, 1970 at the Church of the Open Bible, Pittsburg, to Edward Hicks of Oklahoma. For 11 years she was a Navy wife moving with Edward to Point Mugu and Port Hueneme in Southern California and Mare Island in Vallejo, and the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL.
She retired as a Food Services Manager for the Mt. Diablo Unified School District in 2009, after 20 years at Rio Vista Elementary School. Katy was a member of the Generation Church in Pleasant Hill. A RED HAT Lady. A founding member of the Brooks Sister Travel and Adventure Group. Katy was also an excellent Bunko player.
Katy enjoyed helping others and organizing special events. She had a great memory and always a reliable source of information. She was a stranger to no one and a friend to all.
Katy is survived by her husband Eddy and son Matthew, daughter Leighanne (Fred) Ramirez and granddaughter Victoria Ramirez. Mother Evelyn Brooks Metcalf Duffy, Sister Bette Wilkinson, brothers Allan Metcalf (Sharon)and Dennis Metcalf (Terri). Aunts Polly Aaron. Addie Simmons, Bea Dannon. and Erma Glanzman. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Katy was preceded in death by her father Walter Metcalf and brother Jim Metcalf.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00PM at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 10:00 AM also at Ouimet Bros. Chapel.
Donations can be made in her name to the Oakland Children's Hospital, Oakland or the Generations Church of Pleasant Hill, CA.
