Mary Elizabeth Timmers

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Timmers Aug. 1, 1920 ~ Nov. 20, 2010 Resident of Lafayette Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Timmers, 90, passed away on November 20, 2010, in Coos Bay, Oregon after a stroke. She was born August 1, 1920 to Arthur and Muriel Harvey in Malden, Mass. Betty graduated from Tufts College and received a degree in Psychology in 1942. After college, Betty served in the Marine Corps during World War II. She married Frank Timmers in 1948. They were married for 57 years until Frank passed away in 2005. Betty was a homemaker and an outdoor education teacher. Many children in the Lafayette area knew her as "The Bird Lady" or "The Bug Lady". She and Frank loved nature and travel, and enjoyed many adventures together. She was a long-time member of the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, and for the last three years has been lovingly supported by the church family of Greenacres Community Church in Coos Bay. She is survived by daughters, Martha Moehring and husband Steve of Coos Bay, Oregon; Aileen Timmers of Lafayette, California, Cindy Alford and husband Jim of Indianapolis, IN; grandson Chris Timmers and wife Andi of Indianapolis, IN; and great-grandchildren, Casey and Aurora Timmers. "Grama Bedy" was loved by all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) or the Audubon Society. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette.
