Marcella Boyer Obituary

Marcella Kincl Boyer April 9th, 1923 - September 28th, 2010 Resident of Martinez Marcella Boyer passed away peacefully at Sunrise Assisted Living in Walnut Creek, CA, on Tuesday September 28th, 2010 at the age of 87. She was born in Seward, Nebraska, the first child to Jerry & Rose Kincl. Marcella was raised in Staplehurst, Nebraska along with her younger brothers Jerry James Kincl and Bernard Lamar Kincl. Marcella graduated from Seward High School class of 1940 as valedictorian at age 17. She went on to attend Iowa State for 1 year. When Marcella's family relocated to California she left Iowa to join them, moving to Oakland, CA, where she attended Cal State Berkeley for 2 years. She then returned to Iowa State graduating with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Home Economics Education in 1948. Moving back to California to be with her family Miss Kincl found a job as a Home Economics Teacher at Martinez Junior High School in 1948. In 1956 while attending a party in Martinez she met Dexter "Slim" Boyer. After a lovely courtship, she & Slim were married July 6th, 1957. On May 21st, 1959 they were blessed with the birth of their only child Matthew Alan Boyer. After taking 1 year off, she resumed her teaching duties until retiring from Martinez Junior High School in 1978. With extra time on her hands between travels she took a job at Rinehart's Jewelry of Walnut Creek, CA. She then went on to become employed full time with the State of California Unemployment Office in Pleasant Hill, CA, retiring from the work world permanently in 1988. Marcella was very proud to be a member of the First Congregational Church of Martinez, the Iowa State Alumni Association, the Martinez branch of AAUW where she was the last surviving continuous charter member since its founding in 1948, the California Teachers Association East Contra Costa # 52 Division as a Retired Life Member, Diablo Home Economics Association and the Martinez Senior Center where she and Slim enjoyed many trips, stateside and abroad. She was also involved in many activities in the community including playing in her bridge club, Loaves & Fishes through the church and quilting groups, to name a few. Marcella is pre-deceased by her husband Dexter "Slim" Boyer in 1995, parents Jerry & Rose , her brothers Jerry & wife Vinola of Arkansas, Bernie & wife Julie of Walnut Creek, CA, a nephew Barry Kincl of Arkansas, and a niece Christy Shafer of Sacramento, CA. She is survived by her son Matt and wife Tami of Martinez, grandson James Boyer of Martinez, granddaughter Nicole Boyer of Rocklin, CA, & step-grandson James DeSimas of Martinez. Nieces Diane (Kincl) Schwalier & husband Terry of Tennessee and children Erik & Jenna, Terry (Kincl) Trajanovich of Walnut Creek, CA and daughters Katie & Stephanie, and Christy's children Heather & Lisa. Nephews Pastor Rich Kincl, & wife Kay of Florida and children Sara Vi & Barry , John Kincl, & wife Amy of Alta Loma, CA. & son Michael of Florida, Anthony Kincl and longtime family friend Chuck Miller of Sudbury,Mass. , Steve Boyer & wife Vicky of Colorado and children Tamra & Megan and sister-in-law Ann Kincl of Arkansas. Private services and burial have been held at Oakmont Memorial Park & Mortuary of Lafayette, CA. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 13th, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Martinez on Susana & Court Streets. Reception to follow at the church.
