LaVerne Alberta Selsted

LaVerne Alberta Selsted Aug. 12, 1925 ~ Dec. 4, 2010 Resident of Rossmoor Surrounded by her loving family, LaVerne passed away peacefully from complications of Parkinson's Disease. LaVerne grew up in Walnut Creek and graduated Valedictorian from Acalanes High School in Lafayette. She attended Mills College for 2 years and then UC San Francisco where she graduated in Nursing. While working as a nurse she met her husband of 61 years on a blind date. They raised their children in San Mateo and Woodside, and then spent their retirement in Cupertino and Santa Rosa before moving to Rossmoor in 1996. When her children were young, LaVerne was very active in the PTA. She also volunteered her time with the Menerton's and Project Head Start. LaVerne also enjoyed bowling, golf, tennis, traveling with her family and playing bridge. LaVerne is survived by her husband Walter; children Michael (Peggy) of Irvine, Kathie Hetherington (Dale) of Alamo, and Richard (Carol) of San Francisco; grandchildren Colin and Patrick Selsted of Irvine; and nieces Carol Schneider (Jim), Joanne Traverso (Victor), Beth Leverich (Ken), Paige Lasater (Jeff) and Gail Banta Piedalue. LaVerne was preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine Gosbey. Her family wishes to honor her request that no services be held. Donations in her honor can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the charity of your choice.
