Justin Bereny
Orinda
Justin Bereny passed away on July 28, 2015 after suffering a catastrophic stroke.
Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Justin attended
Indiana University where he earned his BS and MBA degrees. While in college, he made many close, life-long friends and was President of his ZBT fraternity. After graduation he served as an officer in the US Navy.
In 1956 Justin began his business career at the Illinois Institute of Technology. This fostered in him a life long fascination with new, cutting edge technologies. There together with a group of young entrepreneurs and scientists they raised venture capital to co-found a fiber optics company in Silicon Valley. After the company went public, he moved to Chicago and worked as a securities analyst and later lived in London as a real estate investment manager. Returning to California, he started several publishing and consulting businesses: Technology Transfer Associates, Solar Energy Information Services and Business Technology Books. He also authored the "Survey of the Emerging Solar Energy Industry" and the "Engineers Guide to Solar Energy".
He met his wife and soul mate of 38 years, Robin Coveney, at a World Affairs Council meeting and together they traveled widely. In 1984 they moved to Orinda and owned a franchise business.
Justin is survived by his wife, Robin; his sister, Frances; his sister and brother in law, Shelly and Bill Coglizer, nephews David (Evelyn) and Jack Coglizer; niece Amy Inouye (John) and their children, Sarah and Tom.
He will be remembered for his extraordinary kindness, his thoughtful manner, his integrity and honorable nature. Above all, he will be missed by his adoring wife who loved him with all her heart.
