Joseph V. Cepernich Dec. 21, 1918 ~ Oct. 4, 2010 Resident of Martinez Joseph Cepernich passed away on Monday, October 4, 2010 while visiting family in Eureka, CA. Joseph was a native of the island of Brac, Croatia, and a long time resident of Martinez, CA aged 91 years. During WWII he served as a Staff Sgt. in the US Army. Joseph was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, American Legion Post 324, El Cerrito, and Napredak Club, San Jose. Joseph was a Chevron retiree where he worked for 42 years. "Grandpa Joe" was an Oakland A's fan, a loving neighbor and friend to everyone, and loved to talk about his extensive travels during the war. Above all he loved his family and was a loving husband to Mary, his beloved wife of 54 years. Joseph is survived by his loving daughter Stephanie Capser of Martinez; dear grandchildren Gina (Scott) Bauer of Eureka and Marcus Capser of Northern CA; and great-grandchildren Ty Bauer and Kenyon Bauer. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Cepernich in January of 2000. Joseph was also predeceased by his brother Anton Cepernich; and sisters Lucy Gordon and Pearl Matulich. There will be visitation at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek, CA 94595 on Monday, October 11th beginning at 4pm followed by a Rosary at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate Joseph's life at 10:30am on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Christ the King Church, 199 Brandon Road at Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward.
