John Dewey Fehd June 26, 1929 - Oct. 8, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek John Fehd was born in Racine Wisconsin to Alveta and John Fehd. He was raised in Iowa and Pasadena, California. He joined the U.S. Navy, trained and flew as a night attack pilot during the Korean war. Upon his discharge, he obtained his B.A. degree from San Jose State University. He joined IBM in 1956 and spent his career as a systems analyst with a number of companies retiring in 1994 from Kaiser Permanente. John lived an active life participating with joy in many activities such as fishing, snorkeling, shell collecting, golfing and music. He played a tenor rhythm banjo with many Dixieland bands including the Headliners, California Express, Joyful Noise, Midnight Rose, New Revival Jazzmen and two bands he formed, Quail Ridge Jazz Band and John Fehd's New Orleans Style Jazz Band. Upon retirement, he wrote and arranged lead sheets for the bands. He was a member and past president of Kiwanis, a member of SIRS, Ala Moana Sportmen's Club of Honolulu, East Bay Banjo Club, and past president of Monterey Hot Jazz Society. He was awarded Volunteer Emeritus for his 10-year dedicated service as a docent for the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He was Moderator of Waiokeola Church in Honolulu. He served as a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church Monterey, and was a member of Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church. After 54 years of marriage, he leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Fay, his adored children, Cheryl McHugh (Tim), Robert Fehd (Julie), grandchildren, Lauren, Robby and Maddy, and his sister, Elaine Randisi. He will be greatly missed for his sunny smile and his zest for life. Dixieland celebrations of his life will be held at Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Dr., Lafayette on Sunday, October 24 at 4:00 pm, and 1st Presbyterian Church Monterey on Saturday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to The Chautauqua Fund, P.O.
