Gladys Roderick Obituary

Gladys Marie Roderick Resident of Lafayette March 8, 1928 ~ Oct. 10, 2010 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, Gladys passed on to be with The Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Her loving gentle spirit and kindness will be missed by all who knew her. Born in East Haven, Connecticut, she graduated from Commercial High School class of '45, and Strong Business College in New Haven. Gladys worked as a stenographer before marrying Joseph in 1953. She took on the challenge of raising four children while living in Connecticut, Kentucky, upstate New York, then settling in Lafayette in 1967. Later she worked again as a secretary, working for the Moraga Country Club for 9 years before retiring in 1990. She was a long-time member of St. Anselm's Episcopal Church where she served on the alter guild, and attended Bible Study Fellowship. Her family was always her priority, but she also enjoyed old movies, an investment club, and her trips to Hawaii and Alaska. She is survived by husband Joseph; daughter Kathy Lopez; sons David, Keith and Craig; daughters-in-law Joyce, Beverly, and Denise; granddaughters Gloria, Allison, and Sonja, grandson Christopher; and brother Ernest. We miss her deeply and she will always live in our hearts and memories. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Friday, October 15 at 11:00am at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Avenue, Walnut Creek, (925) 934-5400. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society .
