Erwin Gove Former of Orinda Erwin Huntington Gove, 82, of Arroyo Grande, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at his home in Arroyo Grande from natural causes. Erwin was born March 28, 1928 in Saint Louis, MO to Erwin Manheim and Hester Gove. He grew up in Santa Cruz and graduated from California State Polytechnic College in 1949. He served in the army. Erwin married Joan Daley Gove on July 23, 1960 at Carson City, NV. Erwin and Joan moved to Orinda in 1962 where they raised two boys, Erwin and John. He spent most of his career working for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company as an Electrical Engineer. He served in a variety of technical and supervisory positions and was respected nationally for his involvement in Systems Protection. Erwin retired in 1989. Erwin was very social and enjoyed being involved and helpful wherever possible. He volunteered on the maintenance committee at Orinda Park Pool and was involved in the Orinda Hiking Club. Erwin was an avid camper, backpacker, fisherman, snow skier and water skier; he loved the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He built a cabin in Dorrington, below Bear Valley, with the vision of providing affordable access to the Sierras for his friends. He was also an amateur astronomer and built a Dobsonian telescope with his son John. In the early 1990's Erwin bought Maenad, his 25 foot sailboat and sailed all over the Bay, up the Delta and out the Gate. Erwin joined the Marina Bay Yacht Club in Richmond CA. He served as Commodore and Editor of the yacht club's news letter, the Signal. Erwin and Joan moved to Arroyo Grande in 2002. Erwin was preceded in death by his sister Lenore G. Carney and is survived by his brother Alan Gove of Castro Valley, his wife Joan Gove, his boys, John and Erwin, their wives, Mundi and Lee Ann and grandchildren, Erwin (Hunt), Michael and Greyson. Erwin will be remembered as a wise and loving husband and father and dependable and faithful friend. He valued family, friends and humor.
