Doris Eleanor Martinez April 3, 1925 ~ Dec. 10, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek Doris Eleanor Martinez, loving wife, nurturing mother and doting Nana, passed away peacefully Dec. 10th surrounded by her family. Doris was born April 3, 1925 to Victor and Anita Hubbard. While working as a bookkeeper in Oakland, CA, she met the love of her life, John Manuel Martinez, who has been her loving husband, friend and soulmate for the last 54 years. They moved to Walnut Creek, CA in 1960 and together they raised 4 children. Doris was actively involved in her children's education, serving as secretary at St. Mary's Elementary School in Walnut Creek for 25 years. She was a surrogate mother during the school day to hundreds of children as well as friend, and often confidante and advisor to their parents. She touched and inspired students, their families and faculty during her tenure at St. Mary's. It was at St. Mary's that she met her closest friend, Eleanor Trenkwalder, then a 3rd grade teacher and administrator. Doris and Eleanor remained the closest of friends for the rest of her life, sharing much joy and love. Doris is survived by her husband of 54 years John Manuel; daughters Laura Farley (Keith) and Maria Harrity (Ross); and son John Martinez (Kim). She was Nana to eleven grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her daughter Darlene Amell; and her sisters Margaret Gallagher, Mildred Perrina and Patricia Balderston. The family would like to thank the staff at Bruns House (hospice) for their tender, loving care of Doris during her last days. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 15th at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, 2039 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Walnut Creek, CA.
