Deborah Ann Nyquist Goodwin passed away with her husband by her side after losing her battle with cancer. Her strength of character and positive attitude won her many lifetime friends. Debbie was born in Phoenix, AZ, graduated from West Phoenix High School and earned her Masters degree in Physical Education with a minor in Health from Brigham Young University. She was passionate about sports and began her career as a Physical Education Instructor in Springfield, Utah. In 1978 she moved to San Leandro to teach at Chabot Junior College in Hayward. In 1985, Debbie joined the staff at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo where she worked until her retirement in 2008. Her coaching career spanned 33 years. Debbie is survived by her husband, Glenn; children Bryant Goodwin (Anna) of Santa Rosa, Heather Cox (Mark) of Kailua, HI, and Paul Goodwin (Rose) of Beaverton, OR; grandchildren Joseph and Grant Goodwin & Rachel, Ryan and Andrew Cox. Services will be held on Saturday, November 17, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1432 Laurel Road in Oakley. Viewing at 11am. Services at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Martinez Hospice (925) 229-7800 in honor of Debbie.
