Clarence Howard "Stan" Stanley March 19, 1924 ~ Dec. 6, 2010 Resident of Concord Stan passed away peacefully at home on December 6th. He joins his first wife, Marian Cowden Stanley, who preceded him in death in 1980. Born in Lafayette, his military service and work took him across the country and overseas. He served in the US Army during World War II fighting in the Battle of the Bulge where he received a Purple Heart, returning to the Bay area to attend U.C. Berkeley, studying engineering, and start a family. He worked for Bechtel for 25 years starting as land surveyor and leaving Bechtel as a Construction Manager, taking him first across the United States, and later to Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and England. He then resettled in Contra Costa County in 1978. Stan then spent another 25 years operating his own engineering and construction businesses. In his more active years he enjoyed playing golf, singing at piano bars and was a member of the Razzmatazz Players. He always enjoyed music, sports and spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted fan of Frank Sinatra, the San Francisco 49rs and the San Francisco Giants. Stan is survived by his wife Joyce Stanley Wood; children Rick (Anna Marie) of Tustin, Nancy (Matt) of Jamestown NM, Jim (Kathy) of Martinez and Mark of Sonoma; siblings Phyllis Abbot of Chico, Richard (Helen) of Portland OR, Francis (Bob) Schroder of Walnut Creek and Alan of Sacramento; 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grand-child and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the Inspiration Chapel at Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Rd, Lafayette on Friday, January 21st 2011 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Ave, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
