Charles Robert Higdon Resident of Antioch Charles R. Higdon "Red" passed away December 15, 2010 in Antioch, CA. Charlie was born to Lawrence Virgil and Anna (Philips) Higdon on May 20, 1926 in Concord, CA. At 16 he joined the CCC's and then enlisted in the US Army beginning in 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Charlie held a variety of jobs during his lifetime including a hairdresser, operating engineer during the initial construction of BART, truck-driver, owner of dry cleaners in Antioch and Concord, cook, and in recent years, you could find him vending treasures at the local flea market in Antioch. Charlie is survived by his loving companion Shirley Briscoe; his son Robert Higdon (Jeri) of Visalia, CA; grandchildren Michael Higdon (Jamie) of Washington DC, and Theresa Higdon of Visalia, CA; his sisters Jeanie Pazzagoni & Viona Hague, both of California, and Virginia Bell of Idaho. He was preceded in death by his sisters Florine Reno (Faria), Alma Matthews, Mary Moore, & Florence Ann Higdon and step-brother Jack Higdon. "Papa Charlie" is fondly remembered by the Briscoe family, Steven and Sheila and their children, Stephanie, Shawn and Spencer. A luncheon and memorial service will be held on December 29, 2010 at 12:30pm at the Clubhouse at Delta Villa Estates on 18th Street in Antioch. Condolences can be emailed to rhigdon51@ comcast.net.
