Barbara Colvin Obituary

Barbara Clifford Colvin June 9, 1930 ~ Dec 30, 2010 Resident of Concord Barbara Clifford Colvin, 80, passed away peacefully at home in Concord on December 30, 2010. During her lifetime, she was a vibrant and generous person and deeply devoted to her family and friends. She was a 57 year resident of Concord and a 4th generation Californian. Barbara attended Lockeford Grammar School and was the valedictorian at Lodi Union High School. She graduated from Stanford University in 1951 with B.A. Degrees in Biological Sciences and Physical Education and earned a M.A. in Education there in 1952. In 1953, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Donald Colvin, and moved to Concord. She taught Algebra and Physical Education at San Ramon Valley HS and Mt. Diablo HS before devoting her life to raising a family and contributing to her community. Barbara was a member of Chapter OE of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Daughters of the American Revolution, AAUW, and the Stanford Women of the East Bay. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Concord, she served on several committees and enjoyed the deep friendships formed with the OSS Fellowship group. Barbara's greatest joy was her wide circle of friends and her closely knit familyand she was a doting grandmother. She and her husband, Don, traveled extensively throughout the world and to each of the United States. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at their Lake Tahoe cabin. She also liked reading, tennis, and the fine arts, and she was an avid supporter of Stanford football. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Donald Colvin; daughter Carolyn Dufort (Mike) of Los Gatos; son Clifford Colvin (John Reuling) of SF and Honolulu; and grandchildren Marcus, Darrin, and Evann Dufort. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Concord, 1965 Colfax Street, on January 8, 2011 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education, the First Presbyterian Church of Concord, or to any charity of your choice
